The easiest and fastest way to travel to your vacation location in the Bahamas is by air flight. There are direct flights from several airports in the US and Canada as well as from London, UK.

The main entrance airports are the Nassau Lynden Pindling Airport and the Grand Bahama International Airport close to Freeport. From these airports you have good connection flights to other Bahamian islands.

Most international flights to the Bahamas connect through airports in Florida, New York, Charlotte, Atlanta, Newark or Philadelphia. The best connections to the various Bahamian islands are from Miami and Ft Lauderdale.

There are also direct flights from Toronto, Canada and the only scheduled direct flight from Europe is via London, UK.

The flights from a South Florida airport is not expensive and costs around 200 - 350 USD.

Flights to the Bahamas

The major gateway in Nassau is the Lynden Pindling International Airport (NAS), 8 miles west of Nassau, which is served by an increasing number of airlines. There are direct flights from most major cities in the US East Coast to Nassau, particularly from Florida.

American Eagle, an American Airline subsidiary, flies into Nassau daily from Miami and Ft Lauderdale and offers regular seasonal flights from Chicago.

Bahamasair, the national carrier, has daily flights from Miami and Ft Lauderdale, as well as five flights weekly from Orlando.

Continental flies daily from Newark, from West Palm Beach, Ft Lauderdale and Miami with its partner Gulf Stream International.

Delta is one of the busiest carriers with daily flights from Atlanta, Cincinnati, Charleston, New York and Orlando.

JetBlue Airlines offers service from Boston and New York. Spirit Airlines offer flights out of Ft. Lauderdale. US Airways flies in daily from Charlotte and offers seasonal services from Philadelphia.

A direct flight from New York or Philadelphia to Nassau takes approximately three hours, from Charlotte and Atlanta to Nassau about two hours and from Miami to Nassau one hour.

West Jet and Air Canada offer nonstop flights from Toronto, Canada to Nassau. The direct flight takes about three hours.

British Airways has direct flights from London Heathrow to Nassau 5 times a week. The nonstop flight takes about nine to ten hours.

Several US airlines fly to Freeport on Grand Bahama from cities of the east coast including Atlanta, New York, Miami and Ft. Lauderdale.

AirTran flies from Atlanta nonstop daily. American Eagle serves Freeport from Miami daily and Bahamasair flies from Ft Lauderdale. Continental Connection (Gulfstream) travels daily from Ft Lauderdale.

Delta flies from Atlanta, Ft Lauderdale, Orlando, Miami, Tampa, West Palm Beach, Charlotte, Philadelphia and New York.

Spirit Airlines flies from Ft. Lauderdale and US Airways from Charlotte and New York and from Philadelphia on Saturdays.

It's about 35 minutes from Ft. Lauderdale to Freeport, Grand Bahama and 25 minutes from West Palm Beach to Freeport.

All major Bahamian islands have at least a small airport. Some have even a direct connection to a Florida airport like the islands of Abaco, Eleuthera, Andros, Bimin or Exumas, but all major islands are connected through Nassau.

Many carriers operate seasonal schedules to the Abacos. Some routes are flown daily from December through August, and three times a week from September through November.

Many airlines are very small and change schedules frequently even in season. Air Sunshine flies from Ft. Lauderdale to Marsh Harbour and Treasure Cay. American Eagle has a daily flight to Marsh Harbour from Miami.

Continental Connection flies into Marsh Harbour and Treasure Cay from Miami and Ft. Lauderdale. The very small carrier Yellow Air Taxi has scheduled charters from Ft. Lauderdale and West Palm Beach.

It' about one hour fifteen minutes from Miami to Marsh Harbour and about one hour from Ft. Lauderdale.

Lynx Air flies direct from Ft. Lauderdale to Governor's Harbour on Eleuthera Friday through Monday and to North Eleuthera Thursday through Sunday.

Continental Connection through United Airlines have daily flights to North Eleuthera from Miami and Ft. Lauderdale. Continental flies daily from Ft. Lauderdale to Governor's Harbour.

Twin Air flies daily from Ft Lauderdale to all three Eleuthera airports and Yellow Air Taxi flies on demand from Ft. Lauderdale to North Eleuthera and Governor's Harbour.

It' about one hour fifteen minutes from Miami to North Eleuthera and about one hour from Ft. Lauderdale.

Air Sunshine flies on demand from Ft Lauderdale to the Exuma International Airport in Georgetown. American Eagle has daily services from Miami, Continental Connection flies twice daily from Ft. Lauderdale.

Lynx Air flies from Ft Lauderdale to George Town on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

It' about one hour thirty minutes from Miami and Ft. Lauderdale to the Exumas.

Lynx Air flies from Ft. Lauderdale to Congo Town on Andros three days a week and Gulfstream International flies from Ft Lauderdale to Andros Town four days a week.

Gulfstream International has daily flights from Ft Lauderdale to Bimini and Island Air Charters offers schedule flights four days a week from Ft Lauderdale and charter flights at your convenience.

Air service to the Bahamas varies seasonably, with the biggest choice of flights usually in the time between Christmas and Easter. Things can change substantially from year to year because flight carriers come and go, particularly in the Out Islands, which are served mainly by smaller commuters and charters.

Smaller islands may have scheduled flights only a few days a week. In the Out Islands, ask your hotel operator about flight possibilities as they have the most updated information which carrier flies when.

Flights within the Bahamas

The easiest and fastest way to do island hopping within the country is by air. All major islands are reachable from Nassau and most flights between the islands take less than 90 minutes.

The best way to reach an Out Island from outside the Bahamas is via a connection in Nassau. There are many flights per day to Nassau and usually one or two flights from Nassau to the Out Islands.

Bahamasair, the national carrier, offers several daily flights from Nassau to Freeport, Grand Bahama, and to all three airports on Eleuthera (North Eleuthera/Spanish Wells, Governor's Harbour and Rock Sound).

Southern Air flies also from Nassau to Governor's Harbour and North Eleuthera three times daily. Cherokee Air offers chartered flights from Marsh Harbour, Abaco to North Eleuthera.

Cherokee Air is the charter-plane service of choice for island-hopping to and from Abaco. Bahamasair flies daily from Nassau to Marsh Harbour and Treasure Cay on Abaco.

Bahamasair has daily flights from Nassau to George Town on the Exumas.

Several small airlines and charter companies have flights from Nassau or Freeport to the four airports on Andros: San Andros airport in North Andros, the Andros Town airport in Central Andros, the South Andros airport in Congo Town and the Mangrove Cay airport on Mangrove Cay.

Western Air has two flights per day from Nassau to each of the four Andros airports. Major Air has charter service from Freeport to all four Andros airport. Bahamasair offer also flight from Nassau to the Andros airports.

Western Air offers daily flights to Bimini from Nassau. There no flights offered by Bahamasair.

Cat Island Air flies daily from Nassau to New Bight, Cat Island. Southern Air flies from Nassau to Arthur's Town and Bahamasair from Nassau to Arthur's Town or New Bight three times a week.

Bahamasair flies most days from Nassau to the two airports on Long Island: Deadman's Cay in the center and Stella Maris airport in the northern part of Long Island.

The remote Out Islands of San Salvador, Inagua, Crooked and Acklins islands have flights from Nassau several times a week offered by the national carrier.
